Virtual bike race

Between 1 and 26 March 2010 eight of our Shrewsbury Bike It schools will participating in Sustrans' national virtual bike race (VBR).

This year's virtual bike race celebrates Sustrans' 15th birthday and follows 8408km of national cycle network route. Download the VBR poster to see a map of the route.

How it works

Each daily cycle journey made to school by a child, parent or teacher is awarded a set amount of kilometres, contributing to the school's virtual journey around the UK. The more cycle trips made, the quicker the school gets around the UK. The virtual kilometres awarded per journey will vary according to school size to keep things fair!

The number of class journeys will then be logged daily on the VBR website. The school's total kilometres will be worked out and their national position calculated. Schools can then mark their position on the giant UK wall map on display in their school. The school that completes the distance in the fastest time will win the race.

If you want to keep track of how your child's school is doing, just go to the VBR website and look at the league table. If you cannot see your child's school, just type in the school name to the search box.

Prizes

For the national winning school the M.A.D. Mountain Bike Display Team will spend a day performing amazing bike handling tricks and skills at the school. Check out the website for more details and information about great regional prizes, too!
