Shrewsbury BikeFest - cancelled

On Wednesday 22 September 2010 roads outside Oakmeadow Primary School and St George's Junior School were closed to traffic to demonstrate the impact of cars around schools. Lots of pupils cycled and walked to these and other schools in Shrewsbury. Spot the difference for yourself on Kim's scrapbook page.
Kim ran 3 family learning sessions with a family learning tutor during October at Harlescott Junior at the end of the school day. Half an hour for just the parents and the 45 minutes with parents and children. The sessions covered basic bicycle maintenance including using tools and puncture repair.
Kim ran activities in schools throughout October for 'love your bike' month. She also came to our Halloween party at the sports village and helped with our pin the wart on the witch game!

Be Bright assemblies - October 2010
Kim ran assemblies in schools across Shrewsbury preparing pupils to be bright and stay visible during the winter months.
Pupils made some great be bright posters which you can see here.
Kim asked her Bike It schools to enter Ssutrans' competition for pupils to design a poster showing their cycling New Year's resolution.
We've been showcasing the best entries from Shrewsbury's schools in our picture of the month feature throughout 2011.
Kim ran a week of events at Greenfields Primary School including bike to school and walk to school days. The cycle shelter was cleaned by pupils in preparation, the photos below show the shelter before and after clearing.

Cycle Shrewsbury has installed new cycle parking across schools in Shrewsbury. Kim organised official openings for two of our newest shelters to celebrate.

Kim ran lunchtime clubs to give pupils bicycle maintenance training at Belvidere Primary School in March.
Big Pedal - March 2011
During March Shropshire schools took part in Sustrans's Big Pedal virtual bike race. Greenfields Primary was Shrewsbury's most successful school.

Kim doesn't just help school pupils to cycle more she also does scootability training! In May she ran scooter skills training at Woodfield Infants and Greenfields Primary schools.
Cycle Shrewsbury's fifth annual BikeFest took place at the sports village in July. As always Kim was very busy!
She led a ride from the Quarry to BikeFest, ran the Bike It activity tent, interviewed local cycling hero Luke Mellor and led stabilisers off training sessions. Plus she cut the BikeFest cake.

On 29 June approximately 70% of pupils cycled to Belvidere Primary school for cycle to school day!
During July Kim led 4 transition rides helping pupils to plan their cycle route to their new secondary school.
