Walking and cycling improvements - Raven Meadows/ Smithfield Road

Following the junction improvements at Welsh Bridge in Spring 2010, there are now plans for changes at the junction of Raven Meadows,  Smithfield Road and the bus station.

Roushill and Raven Meadows links

In order to improve connections for pedestrians and cyclists between the town centre and the riverside area, the following measures are proposed:

• Roushill/ Raven Meadows junction - build-out kerbs and narrow the carriageway on Roushill and construct a speed table across Raven Meadows to slow down traffic
• Roushill (between Roushill Bank and Mardol) - introduce one-way westbound traffic but provide advisory contra-flow cycle lane
• Raven Meadows (Roushill to Meadow Place) - convert existing footway to shared use for walking and cycling

Contra-flow cycling on one way streets

As part of the Cycle Shrewsbury programme, we are committed to making Shrewsbury's town centre more 'permeable' for cyclists. This has lead to a review of one way streets and we have now identified a number of streets where contra-flow cycling could be introduced.

Red surfacing on cycle lanes at junctions with side roads - trial on Monkmoor Road

Red surfacing is being trialled on Monkmoor Road in order to highlight conflict points between cyclists and drivers, where cycle lanes cross side roads. Find out more.
