Roushill and Raven Meadows links

In order to improve connections for pedestrians and cyclists between the town centre and the riverside area, the following measures have recently been completed:

  • Roushill/ Raven Meadows junction - built-out kerbs and narrowed carriageway on Roushill with a speed table across Raven Meadows to slow down traffic
  • Roushill (between Roushill Bank and Mardol) - introduction of one-way westbound traffic with advisory contra-flow cycle lane
  • Raven Meadows (Roushill to Meadow Place) - existing footway converted to shared use for walking and cycling

Background information

Cycle Shrewsbury and colleagues at Shropshire Council investigated ways to improve the pedestrian and cycling facilities in Roushill and Raven Meadows, Shrewsbury town centre. This is a well used area and local people  requested better connections for pedestrians and cyclists between the town centre and the riverside area.

roushillWhat was proposed during consultation in March 2011?

  • Roushill/Raven Meadows junction - buildout kerbs and narrow the carriageway on Roushill and construct a speed table across Raven Meadows to slow down traffic and provide a pedestrian crossing point.
  • Roushill (between Roushill Bank and Mardol) - introduce one-way (southbound) for motor vehicles but permit two-way cycle use through the introduction of an advisory contraflow cycle lane.
  • Raven Meadows (Roushill to Meadow Place) - convert existing footway to shared use for walking and cycling.
  • It was also proposed to extend the existing 20mph zone in the town centre to cover Roushill, Mardol and Claremont Street
