A number of improvements to cycle and walking routes between Shrewsbury town centre and the north west of Shrewsbury are being introduced as part of Shrewsbury's Connect2 scheme.
Following a consultation held in November/December 2009, Shropshire Council drew up a revised plan for the Welsh Bridge junction, taking into account the comments received during the consultation process.
You can download a PDF version of the revised plan and consultation summary report here:
Welsh Bridge - revised plan following comments
The revised plan was approved by the Central Planning Committee on Thursday 14 January 2010.
The January explosion in Bridge Street damaged much of the existing signal infrastructure nearby. Therefore construction work started early on this project and continued from February to April 2010.
Construction has now been completed for all the signals and paving work.
The newly installed signals technology 'MOVA' is being monitored to ensure that traffic detection is working as efficiently as possible.
At the end of April 2010 the riverside footway was converted into a shared use pedestrian and cycle track from Welsh Bridge to underneath Frankwell footbridge (this will link up with the proposed crossing point)
A new crossing point (pedestrian/ cyclist refuge) was trialled at the Roushill junction in July 2010. Let us know what you think here.
In June 2010 resurfacing work took place on Welsh Bridge, which included high friction surfacing at the junction, coloured surfacing in the cycle lanes and advanced stop lines for cyclists._1.jpg)
On 28th April 2010 Cycle Shrewsbury celebrated the official launch on the Welsh Bridge improvements.
Local photo journalist, Richard Bishop, provided regular updates on the Connect2 works at the Welsh Bridge/Smithfield Road junction in Shrewsbury town centre.
