Oakmeadow Primary School has been working closely with Shropshire Council's School Travel Plan team and Cycle Shrewsbury's new Bike It officer, Kim Williams, to look at ways to promote cycling to school. Find out more about Bike It.
Consultation took place during December 2009 and January 2010 on a number of proposals. Click here to view consultation plans showing the proposed measures.
New zebra crossing on Lythwood Road near Beeches Road - to provide a safer and more convenient crossing point between residential areas, the school, local shops and GP surgery. Local consultation showed overwhleming support for a new zebra crossing.

Construction of the new zebra crossing took place in June 2010.
New shared use pedestrian and cycle path across playing fields into the school site (current access off Longmeadow Road or Lansdowne Road) - to provide direct access into the main school site. It is hoped to develop this path later in 2010. A Planning application for school development and new path has recently been submitted.
Minor changes to kerblines and crossing points at junction of Lythwood Road and Overdale Road - to make it safer to cross the road. Construction work was completed in June 2010.
Additional cycle route direction signing between Pulley Lane, Green Lane and Lansdowne Road - to guide cyclists along quiet residential streets and cycle tracks. Further design work will be undertaken before installing these signs.
New mini roundabout at junction of Lythwood Road and Lansdowne Road - to slow traffic down and help traffic to exit from Lansdowne Road more easily.
Following comments from the consultation, the mini roundabout has now been removed from the scheme. However, traffic speeds will be monitored again after the construction of the zebra crossing, and advisory 20mph signs will also be installed at the same time as the crossing.
